Layers and Layers of LAYERS !!!

alt
Menswear Inspired Layered Look
By Paul Smith

It is no big secret that one of this years biggest Fall Trends is the "Layered Look". This trend has been around for quite some time and isn't going anywhere anytime soon! There is no other way to stay warm while, at the same time, remaining effortlessly chic and stylish. I am, by far, the biggest fan of the layered look. It allows you to be creative in expressing and displaying your style. I believe that it is fairly easy to layer looks but some people may have a few problems with pairing the right pieces that compliment each other, not only in color but in how each piece is shaped and how it drapes. Layering is art; it takes time and you want to always see the main focus which is YOU! Never hide your silhouette; we want to notice you wearing the clothes not the clothes wearing you. But don't worry, I'll be sure to give you tips !

Tips on Layering

1. Have a LOOK ! A Complete look. What vibe are you going for ? Menswear, Preppy, Vintage, Rock, Glamorous ?

2. If you have lost yourself in the clothes than it is all wrong ! We should always see YOU!

3. Have Volume in your look. Everything shouldn't be form fitting! There should always be a Balance.

4. Minimize your accessories ! The last thing you want is over-exaggerated clothes and than alot of jewelery! A simple watch or ring or necklace is enough. Try not to do a lot of statement jewelry pieces!

5. Play with colors and fabrics ! Don't stick to one family of colors, experiment ! Get WILD but not too wild lol.

ATTENTION : The Road ahead is COLORBLOCKED!

COLOR BLOCK

One of this Fall's Hottest Fashion Trend is, indeed, the "Color Block" Trend ! Pairing multiple solid colors, whether as a print or as separate pieces, to create an abstract appearance, is wearable art (as Fashion already is). As seen in the picture above on the first model, wearing black slacks and a tan sweater with brown, yellow and orange color blocked abstract prints over a white turtle neck (also a big fall fashion trend) by Designer Celine, color blocking can be subtle and still be eye-catching and intriguing.

Whether wearing a 3 stripe wine, black and nude strapless maxi dress or nude trousers, a cream chiffon button-front top under a rose colored tailored-fit blazer; you are rocking the color blocking! Now, ladies, be careful because this trend can get a little out of hand. The last thing you want to look like when color blocking is a walking crayon box! Be sure to remain stylish, always have a completed look and most importantly, make sure that your colors and fabrics compliment one another!

Do's and Don'ts of Color Blocking !

Do : Try the Trend ! Color blocking is Fun and Exciting! Gives you the opportunity to test colors and how they vibe with other colors.

Don't : Take it too far ! Like I state earlier, make sure that you're colors compliment one another. You typically only need 3-4 colors and if you have more, make sure that they stay in the same color family as the previous colors.

Do :  Tone your look down by  using neutrals as the base. This way, it allows for more bolder and brighter colors at the top!

Don't : Steer away from mixing and matching 2-3 bold colors; even the colors that may seem "crazy" to mix are the epitome of what COLOR BLOCKING is !

Ladies, scarves are not to just be worn when going to bed! There's a new trend called the "Turban" and I LOVE it !
